Another new workshop will be starting tomorrow afternoon in Centrepoint, Morriston, Swansea. It’s great to bring photography to another new community through Communities First. This workshop will be delivered in the same way as the one I started on Thursday in Seion Newydd, Morriston under the title I am Great. I know the results are likely to be completely different despite the activities being the same.
It’s one of those things that even after five years of delivering photography workshops I never know what I’m going to see from my participants. The results are always a surprise and there are always some great ideas and great results from people who have never worked with photography before.
The idea of my workshops is that you learn to express yourself using photography to boost your mood and learn new skills. I find that using the camera is far more rewarding for people who have had no artistic experience because digital cameras are easy to use and deleting your mistakes isn’t a harrowing experience. It beats spending ages painting or modelling to try and develop your creativity because the results are so instant. The self-esteem boost from knowing what you’ve created is so awesome is perfect for people new to the arts. Feeling like you can see your local environment in a more positive way also has its own benefits. My courses empower people to look at the stuff around them in a new and innovative way and they are more likely to feel able to tackle new life challenges as a result.
I can’t wait to see what my new participants will make of the course. I’ll share the results here tomorrow evening. Meanwhile if you want to see the photographs from my recent workshops with other organisations click here.
