I get fed up with people asking me who my favourite artist is, like it makes any difference to the art that I make. I have no singular favourite in the same way as I have no favourite road, and no favourite breathing pattern.
You wouldn’t ask a scientist which of their peers influences them, instead you’d question their facts and theories. It’s a given that influence comes from everyone who comes before and everything that can be currently observed.
So maybe the question should not be based on who influences me but what I’m currently inspired by, where my current thinking lies, and how I can use this to progress with my theories. The entirety of the Structured Chaos series is based on chaos theory and speculation about the juxtaposition of random events having an influence on shaping a final artwork.
That, and I really like this dead tree…
