The Final Ascent

I found myself climbing a familiar mountain today. I hadn’t been here before and yet I knew this space inside and out.

The joy of creating with someone else’s photographs for long periods is that I am able to study places and situations intimately. I cannot place them in the wider scheme of things yet the specifics become so familiar that finally visiting a place is a déjà-vu all of it’s own.

Now I understand Ascension far better than I ever did when I was creating the piece. I understand how far up the mountain these steps lie. I know where the steps start. I understand how far up the steps I would need to progress in order to imitate the original source photograph.

I finally get it…
