Shameless Self-Promotion

Lots of people praise me on my self-promotion but honestly I think I’m a bit rubbish at it. If I was amazing at PR and marketing then people would know about my exhibitions without me ever having to tell them. They would read about it somewhere or hear it somewhere else. Also, if I was that great at PR and marketing then I would work in PR and marketing!

I kind of dabble around the edges and forget to be consistent in how I push myself. This is because I’m only usually interested in making the art and getting it seen. Once the art is delivered I completely forget about the next part and forget to keep people up to date with where I’m showing and what I’m doing.

I’ve written some lists to try and help me overcome these failings and I know I need to use the media more. On the social media side of things I try to avoid promoting too heavily on Facebook because I don’t want to be spamming my friends and family every five minutes. I’m trying to be more consistent with spamming the world via Twitter instead. [You can follow me @melanieezra on Twitter if you fancy spam for dinner].

So I suppose I’m long overdue for letting you know when and where in the world you can see my art in 2015. There’s always my CV section here on this blog too if I forget anything. Feel free to browse and if I’ve missed anything then let me know.

* I’m currently showing in New York at JMC Gallery on 9th Ave as part of the Crossing Borders exhibition until 28 February.

* In London there’s an ongoing exhibition during February called Dwell. This is happening in conjunction with a book of the same name published by SampsonLow. My entry into this CollectConnect project will be appearing somewhere on the streets of London, UK before the end of the month so keep your eyes peeled.

* Back home here in Wales, I’m also a member artist at the Workers Gallery ; a lovely little gallery in Ynyshir, Rhondda. It’s really easy to get to and I have art exhibited here on a permanent basis. I’ll also be sharing my secrets and methods at this gallery in March as part of the Workers in Progress show which runs 15 March – 5 April.

* I’ll also have this little collage showing at Moss in Norway as part of the Twitter Art Exhibit show. All artwork in this exhibition is sold to benefit Home-Start Moss. Home-Start believes that every child deserves the best start in life. By matching experienced volunteers to families with young children, Home-Start provides support that is free to the family, confidential, and based on individual needs. Volunteers do not make judgements or tell the parents how to live their lives; instead, they try to encourage confidence and independence, and help families build their own networks of friends and other support. Home-Start is a leading family support charity and also supports families here in the UK. I’m happy to donate my art to such a cause. You can find more about Home-Start UK here. The exhibition in Norway runs 12 March – 26 March.

* What else? Oh yes! I’m also putting the finishing touches on some artwork for the On the Map exhibition. I’m working on this with fellow artist Rose Davies and I mentioned this in a lot of detail yesterday. The finished piece will be shown at The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery, London UK 14 April

* And finally, I’ve been invited to curate and/or participate in a whole host of other exhibitions both nationally and internationally. These are very much in the planning and negotiation stages so I can’t confirm much at the moment. Some of these opportunities are materialising out of working relationships formed in previous years in Bath, UK and also across in Serbia. I’m also planning on some exhibitions here in Swansea UK probably for the autumn. It seems the year is filling up fast!

So there you go. Seven hundred words later and I haven’t even begun to mention the new work I’m creating at the moment… [It’s awesome] …or what direction that’s going in… [Collaborative collage/assemblage with an amazing local photographer].

I’ll save all of that for tomorrow shall I?
