Evolution

This week I’ve been evolving my practice in so many ways my head is spinning. I don’t like juggling ideas or projects and I’ve been doing my best to work on one thing at a time. It’s tricky though when all I want to do is get moving on my Structured Chaos series.

So far I’ve completed three layers of cut paper for this next 12″ x 12″ piece. The aim is for fifteen layers in all and with the next idea lined up in my head I am anxious to finish this as quickly as I can. It’s painstaking work though and I am needing to rest my eyes and my hands regularly.  Everything you see is cut by hand. I believe in engaging myself fully in my art rather than taking the (cheating) laser-cutter option.

This is the last artwork that I plan to make using my own photographs and I can’t wait to get moving on the next exciting stage of this project. I need to exercise extreme patience though if I want to make it to the end of this artwork with my fingers intact!
