Dog 2 (Blue Grass)
Yesterday’s dog was created from hedge detail in a previously unused pinhole photograph. This new canine collage is from the grass of a different photograph; thus the dogs are pedigrees in their own right and have no common compositional elements in their surface make-up.
The papier-mâché blanks give the essential dog shape and species clarification, although I find it very strange to be working on familiarly shaped papier-mâché blanks such as these. Now I have two dogs I find myself inventing narratives and scenarios for these ‘creatures’. In my mind I see Blue Grass as female and Hedge as male. I cannot think of them as lifeless objets d’art, or referents to a biological concept. I have regressed into childhood and am playing with toy animals.
And now to get them to have sex.
