on Krasner

Response 3.1 (detail)

“I never violate an inner rhythm. I loathe to force anything… I don’t know if the inner rhythm is Eastern or Western. I know it is essential for me. I listen to it and I stay with it. I have always been this way.

I have regards for the inner voice.”

Krasner ‘She Has Been There Once or Twice’ interview with Gaby Rodgers, 1977, Archives of American Art

I identify with Krasner, not because of her methods, or what genre of art she is meant to represent, but because it is she who speaks the most sense to me about my own work. I am not following her, or trying to emulate her in any way, but when I need words to describe my own inner emotions and ideas about where I feel my journey is taking me, it is Krasner who offers me words of advice.
