Having struggled with decisions between ripped and cut paper in Response 1.1 and Response 1.2, I have come to realise that I am mistaken in believing that this is an ‘either/or’ scenario. The struggle is purely an internal one, between my concrete and my abstract, and was never going to be resolved easily. As a whole person I am both methodical and random; hard and soft.
Looking for the ‘either/or’ resolution is folly.
The composition of Response 1.3 is the loosest by far and yet it still retains enough of the original base photograph to be recognisable. The pieces flow in a way that makes the previous responses feel primitive and ill-informed. Response 1.3 is an evolutionary [revolutionary] step for me in intertwining [redefining] both ripped and cut. It is the only logical response a complete person can make.
Response 1.3 is the only response that now matters to me.
